Preparations for the Paris Olympics intensified in the French capital on Saturday as security teams patrolled the six-kilometre route along the Seine for the waterborne opening ceremony, the first of its kind to take place during a Summer Games. While these preparations have greatly disrupted life for residents of central Paris, organisers say that a record 8.7 million tickets have already been sold.
