The Israeli Olympic Committee said its judo team member Tohar Butbul was declared the winner of the men’s 73-kilogram division bout at the Paris Games after his opponent, Algerian judoka Messaoud Dris, “removed himself from the competition”. Olympic organisers said Dris failed the weigh-in for the event, which was scheduled for Monday. In the last Olympics in Tokyo, Algerian Fethi Nourine withdrew to avoid a potential fight against Butbul.
