France’s President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said he would maintain the current centrist caretaker government through the end of the Paris Olympics to avoid “disorder”. His remarks came just after the leftist New Popular Front (NFP) bloc, which won the most seats in parliament during the snap elections this month, finally announced its preferred candidate for prime minister, little-known civil servant Lucie Castets.
